Rit Fabric Dye Red Questions

Rit Fabric Dye Red
Question about fabric. . .?

I bought this fabric…it is cotton. It has a white back ground and the design on it is in red. I am wanting to make it a beige/tan background w/red print instead of white. Would I just buy RIT dye and do this or does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this? Thanks!

Cut a bit off the material and use the RIT on it and see what happens. If it is not to your liking you have lost the RIT and a little bit of your material. If you like it get some more RIT. Better to see what can happen than to loose a lot of material and the money you put into it.

Making Dresses for New Years Eve in DC

I have started making dresses for New Years Eve in DC. Handmade clothing has become very popular lately, so I plan to sell these dresses in order to make enough money for me and my friends to buy tickets to the Professionals in the City dance.

So far, I have made one dc new years’ eve dress. I got the material from a pair of my mother’s old curtains. She was going to throw them out since she got new ones for Christmas, but I told her that I would use them. The curtains went on her bay windows, so they are huge. Using a sewing pattern I found online, I made a bright orange empire style dress. I bought yellow lace from a local craft store to sew around the edges, and I used Rit dye to make a strip of the curtains yellow which I put around the waist.

The dress I am working on now is a short, black cocktail style dress. I fashioned the pattern after my own favorite dress which is actually purple, but I like black better. I bought the material from a fabric shop in the mall; it is cotton. The dress has one simple zipper in the back and that is all. I plan to wear this dress myself when I celebrate New Years Eve in DC.

In between sewing on my cocktail dress, I am working on designing the next dress I will make. It will be a long, red, fancy dress. I got the idea for the dress from the Vera Wang dress that Ashley Marcel wore to last year’s dc new years‘ eve party. Her dress was more simple, though, whereas the dress I will be making will be more flashy. I plan on putting faux diamonds on one half of the dress going diagonally across, and the neckline will be lower to show more cleavage.

The first dress I made is for sale for $100 which is only 2/3 the price of one ticket to the New Years Eve in DC dance I want to go to. I plan to sell the red one I will make for $200; that will cover the rest of my ticket plus one more. If I make 2 more dresses and sell them for roughly $150 each, I can bring two more friends with me.
