Bridal Hair Accessories-Preserving Your Keepsake
For most women their wedding day will be one of their most cherished memories. And although high quality photographs are a great way to remember the visuals of that special day, many brides like to hold on to something more tangible such as their bridal hair accessories .
Holding on to your bridal hair accessories allows you to not only remember the feelings and textures of that day—but it is something that can be given to and shared with others. Although your daughters or daughter in-laws may not want to wear your more than likely out-dated wedding dress, she might want to borrow your bridal jewelry as it is a great way to incorporate family heritage into the wedding ceremony. Correctly storing your bridal hair accessories will allow future generations to enjoy them as well.

Prior to storing away your bridal accessories, you will need to ensure that they are well protected and secure. Use acid-free tissue paper to prevent your veil or piece from turning yellow. Also avoid the use of plastic to wrap your piece in as the chemicals in plastic can cause discoloration to fabric and trim over extended periods of time.
Use your acid free tissue paper to softly wrap up your headpiece. If your wedding hair accessory is one that molds to the shape of your head, wrap a Styrofoam® ball with the tissue paper or mold the tissue into a ball to place your headpiece on for support and to help it maintain its shape. Once you have the piece covered in paper, place it in a box and add more tissue to keep it from bouncing around.
If you are storing a veil as well, place sheets of acid-free tissue paper in-between the layers.
As you prepare to store your bridal hair accessories it is important to find a strong acid-free box to put them in. If you are placing your pieces in a closet or under a bed there is the possibility that the box will be accidentally placed under other items and distorted. Having a box with a sturdy frame will help prevent your pieces from being damaged under heavy weight.
Store it
When the accessory is safe in the box, keep it in a dry cool place, such as under the bed or in a closet. Stay away from areas with high humidity and temperature extremes including basements and attics. Also avoid damp garages as mildew and pests are likely to enter the box and cause damage.
Shield the box from dust with old sheets; avoid plastic as it may lead to condensation and create mildew.
